Great summary Jake, and I also like what Mark Cuban had to say. I'm a middle aged liberal woman, and suddenly last night YouTube decided that, among my hundreds of historical fashion and linguistics videos, I was very interested in Greg Gutfield's "humor." There is no natural algorithm in the world that would come up with that result.

However, there are a lot of liberal young men. My son and his friends are all liberal and voted for Harris. But they are Deadheads, so they have a culture outside of their phones. They have music for examples of liberal men they can admire and emulate. They go to shows with "friends they've never met before."

Thanks Kate! Yeah, these algorithms are a huge issue. I love that your son is finding this community. I love that phrase "friends they've never met before"

This is the second month-old+ post of yours that I read this morning and with which I agree completely. While agreement is not necessary for me to read and subscribe (e.g., I disagree with many of the Bulwark writers often, especially JVL and Kristof, but I still read them), it is refreshing to see common sense and perception so effectively deployed. Consequently, I just hit the subscribe button.

As for the need to engage in red areas, some folks are doing that and trying to spread the word. Jess Piper in Missouri (Dirt Road Democrats) is a great example.

Thanks for your insights. Unlike the pundits, especially those who are mostly trying to preserve their reputations after blowing it big time, your post-election analysis has remained valid. One final observation - maybe it is time to move the 70- and 80-year old Dem leadership to retirement. They have blown 2 winnable presidential elections out of the last three. I say this as a 71-year old independent voter who has never joined a political party, but have supported Dem candidates in the past 5 presidential elections.

I look forward to reading more of your posts.
